As noted earlier Wrigley was built in March of 1914 and was open for business by April 23rd of 1914, a six week span. The cost of construction was $250,000 as it was built by the Zachary Taylor Davis group. Aside from designing Wrigley Field, Zachary Davis had also designed old Comiskey Park the home of the Chicago White Sox in 1910. Initially known as Weeghman Park for Charles Weeghman the owner of the Federal League team the Whales, Wrigley has become baseball field synonymous with being cursed. Since the Cubs came to play at Wrigley in 1916, they have yet to win a World Series. However, they were the loser of four World Series, in 1923, 1936, 1938, and 1945. |
